New construction jobs are set to be created in Southport after council bosses appointed a property developer to revamp the site of a former amusement park.
Urban Splash is poised transform the old Pleasureland park into a botanical garden, The Southport Visitor reports.
As well as the gardens themselves, the development is also set to see the construction of hotels and an artificial beach.
Patrick Sheridan, project manager at Urban Splash, told the newspaper that the new facility will bear in mind the heritage of the coastal town, explaining: "We are aiming to match the Victorian ambition and vision that made Southport such a booming resort."
Mr Sheridan estimated that construction work on the 25-acre site could take around five years, on what he described as a "tight but feasible" schedule.
Urban Splash currently has £130 million worth of projects under construction, including residential and commercial developments.
It is currently working on Royal William Yard in Plymouth, another coastal development comprising homes as well as office, retail and leisure space.
