The UK's leading structural steel group, Severfield-Rowen, will be in line to offer new construction jobs after it announced that it would be expanding its operations to India.

The company said yesterday (November 17th) that it had signed a formal agreement with Indian firm JSW Building Systems to create a new steelwork business based in Bellary and India's commercial hotspot Mumbai.

Commenting on the agreement, Severfield-Rowen chief executive Tom Haughey told the Yorkshire Post: "We have identified India as a place with a very strong growth potential."

Mr Haughey also told the newspaper that the new joint venture will work on a number of projects ranging from oil and gas projects to stadiums.

The new company will be called JSW Severfield Structures Ltd and will be based adjacent to JSW Steel's Vijayanagar works in Bellary District.

Severfield-Rowen acquired Fisher Engineering Ltd in 2007, a major construction steel fabricator based in Northern Ireland.
