Construction recruitment is set to be boosted in the US thanks to the launch of multimillion pound project.

Around 300 construction jobs are expected to be created when works begins to build a new $244 million (£145 million) children's hospital in Pennsylvania.

Governor Edward G Rendell unveiled the State Hershey Children's Hospital scheme last week and added that a further 1,500 vacancies would be created once construction is completed.

"The economic benefit is obvious - a sizeable investment in the community in a project that will create good-paying jobs. We are committed to supporting projects like these because of the results they generate," he told the publication.

"Most important, though, is what this facility will mean to children and their families. Not only will this new facility provide exceptional care, it will provide a measure of comfort during what can be a trying time."

According to developers, the new 252,000-square-foot hospital will be a five storey facility with a basement.

The construction job is expected to be completed by 2012.
