Construction job prospects in Leeds could receive a boost after Interserve secured a 19-year facilities management contract from Equitix.

The contract, which is worth more than £2.5 million a year, will involve the delivery of facilities management services at seven mental health sites across Leeds.

Construction work forms part of the contract, with Interserve employing 150 staff to undertake grounds maintenance and estates management.

The construction firm will also be responsible for mechanical and electrical maintenance, building maintenance and the transfer of clinical waste.

Commenting on the contract win, Maria Kitching, Interserve's health business managing director, said: "We welcome this excellent opportunity to work with Equitix and to extend our relationship with Leeds Partnerships NHS Foundation Trust in delivering services to the local community - we have been providing facilities services at the Trust's other PFI sites since 1998."

It was announced earlier this week that Interserve had been named preferred bidder in a ten-year facilities management project in Ealing worth £5 million a year.
