Those in construction jobs at the Olympic Park site are being encouraged by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) to walk or cycle to work.

According to the ODA, ten per cent of people involved in Olympic construction work are currently walking or cycling to the site.

David Higgins, the ODA's chief executive, said he hoped that 100 per cent of London 2012 spectators would arrive at the Games using public transport.

"It's great that ten per cent of construction workers are already walking and cycling to the Olympic Park, with thousands more taking public transport to and from the site," he commented.

Over 400 cycle parking places have been installed at the Olympic site for construction employees, while new cycle lanes have been introduced close to the Games' venues.

Mr Higgins added that he hoped that cycling to work would "set a future trend", although he stressed that all bicycles must be "equipped for the roads".

The ODA announced earlier this month that the £100 million investment at Stratford railway station had reached the halfway point.
