Olympic road improvements could create London construction jobs

New construction jobs could be created in London during road improvements in the run-up to the 2012 London Olympics.
The Olympic Route Network will deliver a series of permanent upgrades aimed at reducing congestion in the approaches to east London's Olympic Park.
These include improved traffic signals, the delivery of a new Traffic Control Centre, the installation of CCTV and upgrades to junctions.
Similar measures were implemented ahead of the recent Olympics in Sydney, Athens and Beijing.
Transport minister Sadiq Khan said that the route network is a "huge challenge" in addition to being "critical" to the Games' overall success.
"This temporary solution will be implemented in a way designed to keep London and other competition areas moving, as well as leaving a positive legacy for the city in terms of improved traffic management infrastructure," he commented.
Mr Khan added that he was "confident" that the plans being implemented would help to guarantee the smooth running of the 2012 event.
The Olympic Delivery Authority revealed last month that work on the 2012 Aquatic Centre's roof had reached the halfway point.
