Those in architect jobs have heaped praise on the designs of the Olympic Park's major venues.

Leading lights from the design and architecture industry were recently given a tour of the Olympic Park site in Stratford, east London.

Deputy chief executive of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment Joanna Averley said: "Seeing the project at this stage is an amazing celebration of British engineering, as well as British architecture, particularly the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre and Velodrome, which will provide a lasting legacy for London."

Her sentiments were echoed by Paul Davis of the Royal Institute of British Architects, who said he was "most impressed" by the progress being made at the Olympic Stadium.

"Not just because it is impressive but because it's actually so simple. For me that is what some of the best architecture is about," he commented.

Those on the tour visited the Aquatics Centre designed by Zaha Hadid and were given the opportunity to discuss the design concepts of the buildings that everyone will become familiar with during 2012.

It was recently confirmed by the Olympic Delivery Authority that construction work on the roof of the Aquatics Centre had reached the halfway point.
