Kier Western has started working on a major construction project at Bristol International City Airport, which may have boosted the number of construction jobs in the South West.
The company has been contracted to create a 450 metre walkway connecting the terminal building to pre-boarding zones.
Valued at £7.5 million, the project will include new facilities for passengers with reduced mobility.
It is hoped that the walkway will allow people to travel directly to the pre-boarding zones without the need for a bus service.
As well as reducing the operational costs of the airport, replacing buses with the walkway will also help to lower its greenhouse gas emissions.
"The new western walkway at Bristol International Airport will bring a number of considerable benefits, including improved customer service," said Martyn Osborne, operations director for Kier Western.
In May, Kier North East reported that it is one schedule to complete the construction of a psychiatric intensive care unit in Carlisle by November.
